About half of the parish is drained marshland used for grazing and much of the remainder is arable or pastoral divided into 3 farms. The parish has St John the Baptist, a Grade 1 listed church, a recently closed (2014) Methodist church, a thriving Primary School, a garden centre and the award-winning Barnby Swan. The village shop and Post Office closed in 2012.
